Campbell Bay, April 17: A proud moment for the entire UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as Gram Panchayat Laxminagar under Campbell Bay Block in the Nicobar district has secured 2nd Position in the National Panchayat Awards 2023 in the theme "Self Sufficient Infrastructure in Panchayat", under category Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP). The Gram Panchayat has achieved the milestone by competing with other 2.68 lakh Gram the across the country.

In a national function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, the award was presented to Shri Prahlad Singh, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Laxminagar by Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon'ble Minister of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj. The delegation of awardees also included Sh. PK Singh, BDO-Campbell Bay and Sh. Mohd. Jabir, Panchayat Secretary, Laxminagar.  Followed by the Naitonal award function, a three-day workshop is also scheduled by MoPR on the occasion of National Panchayat Awards from 18th April, 2023 to 21st April, 2023 at New Delhi.

Hon'ble President of India, Smti. Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the National Panchayat Awards Week and graced the occasion by addressing the gathering of Elected Representatives and Officials from all over India. She congratulated all the awardee Gram Panchayats conferred with different awards. She mentioned that this will be a stepping stone in the field of Rural development and in the coming years other Gram Panchayats must take example out of it. She emphasized on the lines said by Mahatma Gandhi that the soul of India resides in rural, which means, to see India to be a developed country, first & foremost will be to make our Villages developed, which follows the title of 'Gram Uday sae Desh Uday.'MahatmaGandhi had a dream of making an"Adarsh Gram" and we all must try to fulfill it. She further gave an example of Samras Gram Yojana that was launched in Gujarat with a motive for developing peace in the village. She also said that we should consider village as a family, even though there is dispute among family members but the family is considered to be one. She also said that the line departments should work in convergence for the development of the village. She also requested the women to come forward and should take active part in the decision making process which will be for the development of the village. She also emphasized that the major issue which is mainly prevailing nowadays is of Global warming, and she felt happy thatthe Gram Panchayats are getting awarded for their innovative works in Clean & Green Panchayat,Carbonneutral etc which mainly focus for climate change &betterment of the environment. The other Gram Panchayats must take example from it & try to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. She also said that coming four days’ sessions will provide guidence for the achievement of 9 LSDG themes and will showcase the works being done by the other Gram Panchayats and we must learn from them and try to implement in our Panchayats.

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration have congratulated the PRIs and officials of Gram Panchayat – Laxminagar for this great achievement.
