I am glad to note that the 53rd "Earth Day" is being observed on April 22, 2023 in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, along with the rest of our nation, to acknowledge our responsibility to protect our planet Earth and its natural resources. Our islands are blessed with natural beauty, bio diversity and resources that make it a unique and special place to live.

The theme for the observance of Earth Day this year is "Invest in Our Planet". Investing in the green economy is the only way towards a green, healthy, prosperous and sustainable development. The time has come to show our courage to protect our only home, planet Earth, for our health and livelihood. We need to act boldly, innovate and implement equitably. All of us, including businesses, governments and citizens must contribute to a clean and green mother earth by planting trees, reducing & recycling waste, thereby reducing our dependence on non- renewable energy resources like fossil fuels. Let us pledge to make small changes in our daily lives that can have a significant impact on the environment. We can start by reducing our carbon footprint, conserving water, reducing waste and adopting eco-friendly practices.

On the occasion of Earth Day, I appeal to the residents of our Islands to resolve to do our part responsibly in taking care of our Islands, not just today but every day. Happy Earth Day 2023!
