Port Blair, April 21: A&N Fire Service organized various activities as part of Fire Safety Week from 14th – 20th April, 2023 to pay homage to brave Fire Fighters, who sacrificed their lives in line of duty on 14th April 1944.

As part of Fire Service Week, various programmes on Fire Prevention were organized to enhance public awareness on fire hazard and fire safety measures.

In order to instil a sense of awareness amongst the young mind, a Drawing and painting Competition was conducted on 18th April, 2023 in Schools spread across A & N Islands on the theme “Awareness in Fire Safety for growth of national infrastructure (AGNI)”. Further as a part of the Fit India Campaign, a 05 Km walkathon followed by a badminton championship was held on 15th & 19th April, 2023.

Mock Drills, lectures’ & live demonstration on First Aid Firefighting equipment’s were conducted at Vital installations, Govt. Institutions, Public Places, Hoteliers, Schools & Colleges etc.    

The Fire Service Week culminated on 20th April, 2023 with a spectacular programme organized at Fire Service (HQ), in which Demonstration of Fire Fighting & Disaster Management equipment’s, Display of water curtain, Exhibition of newly received firefighting & Disaster management equipment’s was done.

Smti. Varsha Sharma, IPS SSP (Fire) delivered the welcome speech wherein she enlightened the gathering on the various activities carried out during Fire Service Week-23.

The Chief Guest Shri Anil Shukla, IPS ADGP (HQ), ANI on the occasion addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts of A & N Fire Service. He stressed upon the need of the service to help the Islanders in their time of distress & continue the selfless service in rendering fire prevention and protection to save the life and property of the masses.
