Port Blair, April 25: The 4-day corner meetings and campaign by CPI (M) against curtailment of water, frequent power cut, price rise, etc. began on 24th April, 2023. Corner meetings were held at various parts of the Port Blair on 24th April, 2023. 

Addressing the corner meeting at Delanipur Junction, Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee criticized the BJP-led central government and its Administration in the islands for the curtailment of water supply. He expressed apprehension that the Rutland Water Project has not been implemented in the manner it was evolved because of which water supply from Rutland is not available to meet the requirement of the Port Blair town and rural South Andaman. 

He said that even after 76 years of independence and spending hundreds of crores of rupees for water supply sector, the successive central governments failed to provide daily water supply to a mere two lakh population of Port Blair town and rural South Andaman. Referring to the frequent power cut at Port Blair, CPI (M) State Secretary said that the BJP government has made history by resorting to frequent power cut even during Board Examination period.  He said that despite CPI (M) carrying out a number of agitational programme at Port Blair against power cut, the authorities in the BJP government and its Administration did not take any step to ensure uninterrupted power supply.  This government does not heed to the public criticism and protest by political parties and functioning in an autocratic manner.  

Speaking at the corner meetings at different places, D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member of the party held the BJP-led Port Blair Municipal Council responsible for the pathetic condition of urban roads, footpaths, etc. and said that the BJP has made hollow promises to the people during the Panchayat/Municipal elections held last year.  The corner meetings and campaign will continue till 27th April, 2023.
