Port Blair, June 18: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands held National Lok Adalats in the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR centre-‘PRAYAS’, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder and Diglipur today. The Judicial Officers of this judgeship were present to mark the commencement of the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair, Mayabunder and Diglipur.

Out of the total 1019 pre-litigation cases including 750 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases and 218 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair were referred to the National Lok Adalat, out of which, 97 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and 176 Criminal cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 97 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs. 3,15,59,867.62/- have been settled at Rs. 2,00,69,473/-, thus paving a benefit of Rs.1,14,90,394.62/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs.5,62,173/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 175 Criminal cases a sum of Rs. 8,750/- was realized as fine. Disposing of 01 High Court matter (MAT/11 of 2023 and WPA No. 156 /2023) with settlement amount of Rs. 30,00,000/-.

In Mayabunder, one bench was constituted and 375 pre-litigation cases including 359 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred out of which 22 pre-litigation cases were disposed of and settled at Rs. 13,37,850/-. A sum of Rs. 37,850/- was realized on the spot. 41 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 14 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 51,460/- was realized. In Diglipur, one bench was constituted and 50 pre-litigation cases were referred out of which 06 pre-litigation cases were disposed of and settled at Rs. 13,000/-and Rs. 13,000/- was realized on the spot. 32 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 26 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 61,350/- was realized.

The District Legal Services Authority has constituted five benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur. The Benches at Port Blair were presided over by Shri. Siddhartha Singha, Advocate, Shri Rama Rao, Advocate, Shri Kishor Karmakar, Advocate, Ms. Varsha Ghosh, Advocate and Ms. Nijhtun Fiza, Advocate, Shri. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, Shri. Boominathan, Up-Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, Smti. Ratna Kannan, Social Worker, Shri. Rajesh Ram, Councillor Ward No.22 and Shri. Abdul Islam, Councillor PBMC. The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Shri. Subhayu Banerjee, Additional District and Sessions Judge, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Shri Arabinda Nandi, Advocate and Smti. G. Sandhya, Legal-cum-Probation Officer, District Child Protection Unit, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder. The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Shri. Arnab Roy Chowdhury, Judicial Magistrate First Class, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Smti. Ranjita Biswas, Advocate and Shri Moti Lal Dass, Head Master (Retired).
