Port Blair, Jan 17: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma today called on the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands at Raj Niwas and raised various developmental issues of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

One prominent issue among those issues was the demand for allotment of a minimum of 5 acres of new land that can serve as a new Christian Graveyard in Port Blair region.

During discussion with Hon’ble Lt. Governor today, the Member of Parliament highlighted that over the years, the Christian Graveyard has reached its full capacity, resulting in a challenging situation for the Christian community. The lack of available space for new grave sites has led to distressing incidents where during the digging of a grave, individuals come across the bones and remains of other bodies.

He pointed out that the available free space within the graveyard has decreased to an alarming level and the current situation has made it exceedingly difficult for people to find new grave sites for their departed loved ones.

In light of these situations, he requested to address this critical issue and urged to allocate a minimum of 5 acres of new land that can serve as a new Christian Graveyard.

“This additional space is essential to meet the growing needs of the Christian community and ease the distressing conditions faced by the residents,” he added.
