Port Blair, March 15: As part of the ensuing General Elections - 2024, a meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Shri B. S.Jaglan, IAS in the Mini Conference Hall of the Secretariat today regarding implementation of Model Code of Conduct, monitoring of freebies and illegal cash etc.

Initiating the meeting, the CEO urged the enforcement agencies to be on high alert so as to restrict the flow of cash, freebies and drugs through legal channels that is Airports, Ports and by sea routes by small boats. He made a special mention of fishing boats through which such movement can take place and urged the concerned Departments especially Coast Guard, CISF, Police, Defence and Shipping to be on high alert to check the movement of cash, freebies and drugs, if any, during the election period.

The CEO also urged the Police Marine Force, Defence including Coast Guard and Fisheries Department to make extra efforts and increase surveillance during the Election period to restrict and intercept the movement of cash, freebies and drugs.

During the meeting, the Nodal Officer (IT), Shri Shishir Kumar Mishra through a power point presentation informed about the ESMS software application for Election Seizure Management System and its process. In order to enhance transparency in elections, the Election Commission of India has introduced a new application that is Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) to monitor use of money, power and poll inducements to influence the electorate, which disturbs the level-playing field in elections, he added.      The meeting was attended by State Police Nodal Officer, Ms Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, Secretary (Finance)/NO (Expenditure), Shri C Arvind, Dy. CEO/SDM(SA), Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, SP (ASPNO), Shri Manjeet Sheoran, IPS, SP (PMF), Ms Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Comdt (JG), Anirudh Daba, Dy. Commissioner (Income Tax), Shri Arnab Sarkar, IRS, Director (Fisheries), Shri Vikram Singh, Dy. SP (Cyber), Shri Lakshay Pandey, AME, DSS, Shri Shiju Cheriyan and AAI Officers.
