Port Blair, May 3: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to construct a new dam over Katla Nallah of Middle Andaman to solve the water crisis of Kadamtala and nearby regions of Middle Andaman.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary the Member of Parliament mentioned that many areas of Kadamtala and Uttara are facing severe water scarcity, with water being supplied only once a week. This situation has become a heavy burden for the people living in the affected areas.

He added that the existing water supply infrastructure, particularly the two dams located in Kadamtala Number 03 area, are not adequately maintained to meet the growing water demands of the population. Moreover, these dams are proving insufficient in addressing the water needs of the expanding population in the region.

In light of these challenges, the Member of Parliament requested the Chief Secretary to construct a new dam at Katla Nallah area of Middle Andaman.

He said that this strategic location has the potential to serve as a viable solution to the water crisis plaguing the entire region.
