A&N Police Destroys Huge Quantity of Seized Drugs Worth Rs. 475 Crores

Port Blair, June 26: The Andaman and Nicobar Police observed a week of impactful events culminating in the commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, 2024. Throughout the week, various initiatives and awareness campaigns were organized across educational institutions and government establishments, emphasizing the critical importance of staying away from drugs.

Initiated by the A&N Police, the events began on June 21, 2024, with the launch of an Anti-Drugs Awareness Promotional Bus by the Inspector General of Police, A&N Islands aimed at spreading mass awareness. The bus, equipped with anti-drug posters, informative videos, and engaging street plays performed by the Police Entertainment Team, toured key locations to effectively convey the message of drug prevention and rehabilitation to the public.

"The objective behind these events was not only to educate but also to inspire a commitment among the youth and community to reject drugs," stated the Inspector General of Police, A&N Islands. "Our efforts were focused on engaging with students and staff in educational institutions, and across government offices, where pledges were taken to uphold a drug-free lifestyle."

In observance of the “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” and following the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Mohanlal vs. Union of India and the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Rules (Seizure, Storage, Sampling, and Disposal), 2022, a mass drug disposal event for multiple case properties from various police stations was initiated at 1130 hrs on 26/06/2024 by the CID Unit under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee chaired by DIGP (L&O).  

On June 26, 2024, to mark the conclusion of the "International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Inspector General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Smti. Sindhu Pillai (IPS) administered a pledge. Officers across all ranks of the A&N Police participated in both physical and virtual modes, committing to abstain from drugs and work towards eliminating drug menace from the Islands.

The successful culmination of events on June 26, 2024, reaffirmed the collective determination of the A&N Islands to stand united against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The commitment displayed by students, educators, government officials, and law enforcement personnel alike sets a promising precedent for continued efforts in creating a drug-free society.
