Port Blair, June 27: A two-days Hindi workshop commenced today at the Training Centre, Department of Official Language Department for the newly appointed Lower Grade Clerks of various Departments/Offices of the A&N Administration. The workshop was inaugurated by the Secretary (Official Language), Dr. Anil Agarwal.

Addressing the participants, the Secretary (OL) said, as per Official Language Rules, 1976 Andaman and Nicobar Islands comes under Region “A” and therefore, maximum official work is required to be done in Hindi in all the Offices of the Administration. He further stated that Andaman and Nicobar Islands, despite having multilingual people, Hindi has emerged as the main link-language of all the people and most of the people, Government employees have studied Hindi Language up to school level and if proper encouragement and training are given, they can perform their official works in Hindi with much ease. He said that many softwares are available now, which will be very useful in performing works in Hindi. He extended his best wishes to all the employees and urged them to take full advantage of this workshop and perform their maximum official work in Hindi.

The Deputy Secretary (Official Language), Shri Rajendra Indwar welcomed the gathering and said that the main objective of organizing this workshop is to sensitize the newly appointed employees about the Official Language Policy of the Government of India and about useful e-tools available online in performing official work in Hindi so that they can easily perform their official work in Hindi. He further said that Department of Official Language has prepared training program for all the employees of the Administration in a phased manner for the promotion of Official Language and such Hindi workshop will be organized regularly for the employees of different Departments/Offices of the Administration.

Shri S. Mohandas proposed the vote of thanks. In the first session of the workshop, Senior Translation Officer, Shri S. Mohandas gave detailed information about the Official Language Policy of Govt. of India and in the second session, Junior Translation Officer, Shri Ajay Singh gave important information about the online e-tools available for Hindi typing and Translation. A total of 60 employees from various Departments/Offices of the Administration are participating in this two day workshop.
