Port Blair, June 28: The Chairman, ANTCC Campaign Committee, Mr. TSG Bhasker has expressed his deep concern over the pathetic condition of public toilet in Kadamtala, Police Gate no. 15 and highlighted the absence of proper facilities available for the residents of A&N Islands and also for the tourists.

In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Bhasker stated that the public toilet at Kadamtala Gate no. 15 has not been cleaned for more than 4 months. He said that the floor was very dirty with mud and the urinal pots were filled with urine as the taps were not functioning.

“It is distressing to think about the predicament faced by those who have no other choice but to use them, especially the people travelling by bus. The passengers travelling by bus in night hours are forced to enter this toilet with the help of their cell phone’s light as the bulbs are not working. However, instead of providing relief to passengers, these unhygienic conditions pose a greater risk to their health”, mentioned Bhasker.

He added that the absence of hygienic public toilets not only affects the well-being of our citizens but also has broader implications. As our Islands continue to grow and attract visitors, it is essential to present a positive image. However, the lack of clean and well-maintained public toilets sends a negative message to tourists and tarnishes the reputation of our Islands.

Concluding the letter, Mr. Bhasker said that the lack of hygienic public toilet at Kadamtala Gate No. 15 and other main places like Baratang, Rangat, Nilambur, Bakultala, Billiground and up to Diglipur is a matter of great concern.

He requested the Deputy Commissioner to issue necessary directions to the concerned authorities to address this pressing issue. He also urged to allocate sufficient resources and manpower for the regular cleaning and upkeep of public toilets.
