Port Blair, June 28: In preparation for the implementation of the new criminal laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam – 2023, the Police Training School, Prothrapur, organized a Special Session dedicated to educating and updating the Learned Prosecutors of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The session was conducted in a hybrid format under the supervision of Shri. Manjeet Sheoran, IPS, Principal (PTS), combining both in-person and virtual attendance, and was held at the Conference Hall of Fire & Emergency Services (HQ) on 28th June 2024. This innovative approach allowed for greater flexibility and participation from various stakeholders.

A total of 12 Learned Prosecutors, along with Principal (PTS), Vice Principal (PTS), Station House Officers and other Police Personnel of the Andaman and Nicobar Police, actively participated in the session. The primary focus of this session was to ensure that all attendees are well-versed with the new legal frameworks and are prepared for their imminent implementation.

Shri Atul Srivastav, a distinguished Senior Additional Public Prosecutor from Tis Hazari Court, Delhi, was the keynote speaker. Shri Srivastav delivered an insightful and comprehensive lecture on the new criminal laws. His expertise and extensive experience in the legal field provided valuable insights and practical knowledge to the participants.

The Special Session on New Criminal Laws was a significant step towards ensuring that the prosecutors and police personnel of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are well-prepared for the transition to the new legal frameworks. The knowledge and insights gained from this session will undoubtedly enhance their proficiency and effectiveness in enforcing the new laws, thereby contributing to a more robust and efficient criminal justice system in the region.
