Port Blair, July 3: Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh (CITU) conducted a Mass Demonstration in front of the Port Blair Municipal Council at Aberdeen Bazar, Port Blair today (3.7.2024) afternoon demanding (i) Grant 1/30th of pay plus DA to all DRMs as per Division Bench of High Court order of 24th June, 2024 (ii) regularization of services of DRMs, (iii) to take back all retrenched DRMs in service of PBMC.  

Inaugurating the Mass Demonstration, B. Chandrachoodan, President of the Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh and General Secretary, CITU State Committee said that despite winning the case in the High Court on grant of 1/30th of pay plus DA to the left out DRMs of PBMC, the authorities in the PBMC went on appeal to Division Bench which had rejected the Appeal. He criticized the Congress-led Port Blair Municipal Council for the anti-working class attitude and said that after the Congress nominee was elected as Chairman of the Municipal Council, about 27 DRMs have been retrenched from service without following the procedure laid down in the labour laws. He said that 19 Councillors in the Municipal Council have opposed for extending the 1/30th of pay plus DA to the remaining DRMs and supported the retrenchment of the DRMs.  

SP Kalairajan, General Secretary, Nagarpalika Shramik Sangh also addressed the gathering. The Mass Demonstration was led by R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee and Anand Rajan, Secretary, CITU State Committee. A large number of workers from different sections of PBMC participated in the Mass Demonstration.
