Port Blair, July 4: The newly enacted laws commenced on 1st July 2024, marking a significant milestone in the legal framework of our Nation. To ensure its effective implementation, the South Andaman District Police conducted comprehensive awareness campaign from 1st to 3rd July, 2024, aimed at different segments of society. This initiative underscores the district police commitment to fostering an informed and engaged community.

Police officials in the South Andaman District meticulously organized and conducted awareness programs across at various locations, ensuring extensive coverage throughout the district. The targeted areas included Aberdeen Bazaar, Haddo, Chatham, Anarkali, Delanipur, Dollygunj, Bathubasti, Port Mout, Tushnabad, Manpur, Ograbraj, Manglutan, Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, and Hutbay. These campaigns were lead by officers of various ranks including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Inspectors, Station House Officers (SHOs) and other ranks of the police force.

The members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI), Anganwadi workers, members of the fishing community, women, Self Help Groups (SHGs), school students and college students actively participated in these programs. The events were meticulously planned to maximize engagement and education, featuring detailed presentations, strategically placed banners and widely distributed pamphlets. These materials were designed to educate the public about the newly enacted laws: the “Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita” (BNS), the “Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita” (BNSS), and the “Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam” (BSA).

During these awareness campaigns, the police officials highlighted the significant changes from the old laws and emphasized the key features of the new legislation. These laws are designed to be more citizen-friendly with a particular focus on the protection and empowerment of women and children. Further, the new laws emphasize greater community participation, enhanced transparency and the integration of advanced technology to streamline legal processes.

The South Andaman District Police remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a strong and positive relationship with the community by continuously engaging with the general public and promoting legal awareness and aim to strengthen the bond between the police and the community, ensuring a safer and more informed society for all.
