Port Blair, July 5: Under the chairmanship of Shri Arjun Sharma (IAS), the Deputy Commissioner South Andaman, a pivotal meeting for the Pradhan Mantri Matsya SampadaYojana (PMMSY) was held today, marking a significant stride towards boosting the fisheries sector.

The session focused primarily on concurrence of the proposal on Acquisition of Deep Sea Fishing Vessel under PMMSY & selection of 38 beneficiaries for various subsidy programs including construction of new pond for brackish water aquaculture, purchase of insulated vehicles two wheeler with ice box, three wheeler with ice-box, re-circulatory aquaculture system, cold storage/ice plant etc. From this insightful meeting, the Committee extended the time period for last date for submission of subsidy claim for 24 beneficiaries.

The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman emphasized the importance on constitution of technical and project evaluation and assessment committee for inspection of assets created under various components of PMMSY.

Moreover, to fortify the functioning and outreach of the PMMSY, the extension of 25 Sagar Mitras was approved. The induction of Sagar Mitra is poised to bring substantial expertise, guidance and support to ensure the successful implementation and execution of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’s (PMMSY) objectives.

This proactive meeting is a testament to the Government's unwavering dedication to fortify the fisheries sector, uplifting fishermen lives.
