Port Blair, Aug. 12: The unemployed youth of these Islands those who have passed 8th  std and not completed 28 yrs of age as on 01/09/2013 can apply for 8 weeks training on Food Production (catering) and 6 weeks training on Food & Beverage (Restaurant service) at National Institute of Tourism Hospitality Management (NITHM), Hyderabad.

This training is on free of cost and stipend will be given to the trainees. The hostel facilities will be arranged by NITHM on nominal charges and the expenditure of Breakfast, Dinner and Hostel charges may be adjusted from the stipend. This would be the second batch in the current financial year 2013-14. The first batch has already been left on 22/07/2013.

This year onwards the transportation charge from Port Blair to Hyderabad and back will be reimbursed by the Directorate of Tourism to the candidates who successfully completed the course and their performance and attendance will be taken into consideration for sanction of reimbursement. Port Blair, Aug 12: The Lt Governor being on official tour to New Delhi would not be present for Tuesday’s public hearing on 13th August 2013. Persons desirous to present their grievances can, however, submit the same to the Secretary to Lt Governor in Raj Niwas from 11.00 AM to 12.00 noon on this day.

Port Blair, Aug. 12: As per order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman dry day is to be observed on 15.08.2013 in connection with the Independence Day.

No liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and establishments selling/serving liquor shall be permitted to sell/serve liquor to anyone whosoever on the aforesaid day.

This order is applicable to IMFL vending licencees i.e. ANIIDCO, CSD Canteen, all Defence Canteens, Police Mess and all private bar licencees.

Port Blair, Aug. 11: Mr.Ebrahim Jadwet, S/o Shri Nasir Jadwet, a businessman based in Port Blair on Thursday addressed the Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Matsqui in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. Ebrahim was invited by Aird Flavelle, Director of Club Service as a guest speaker to address the club about the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

In his elocution to the club, Ebrahim touch-based various topics such as the history of the islands, economy, tourism, health care, and also invited the club members to experience the tropical beauty of the emerald islands.

The Rotary club of Abbotsford-Matsqui was chartered on Feb. 23rd 1985 and was sponsored by the Abbotsford Rotary Club. The club currently consists of over 50 members from the community that includes businessmen, politicians, and industry professionals.

Power supply will remain suspended in some of the areas on 13.08.2013 from 0730 hours to 1300 hours for urgent maintenance work of T&D system.        

The areas to be affected by power disruption are South Point, Mazar Pahar, Sinclairs Hotel area, Circuit House, JNRM, Machi Line and RGT Road area complete.

Port Blair, Aug. 11: The number of domestic as well as foreign tourist visiting the islands almost doubled during the last five years. During the last year, the tourist arrivals crossed 2.5 lakhs, which was 1.36 lakhs in 2008.   Replying to an unstarred question by the Member, D R Tripathi in Rajya sabha on Thursday last, the Union Minister for Tourism, Dr K Chiranjeevi revealed that 2,38,699 domestic tourists and 17,538 foreign tourists visited the islands during the year 2012,  as compared to the visits of 2,02,221 and 15,814 respectively during the year 2011.

In his reply tabled in the Rajyaabha, the Minister stated that no tourism project has been sanctioned to the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands during the financial year 2012-13. He added that development and promotion of tourism destinations and products and implementation of various tourism projects is primarily the responsibility of the respective State Government/ Union Territory (UT) Administration. However, the Ministry of Tourism provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for tourism projects identified in consultation with them, subject to availability of funds, inter-se-priority and adherence to scheme guidelines.
