Port Blair, Aug. 6: The PCC President Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma along with a delegation of  students seeking admission in the College and their parents met the Chief Secretary Shri Anand Prakash and Smti Rina Ray, Principal Secretary (Education) and requested them to continue the 2nd shift of Jawahar Lal Nehru Rajakeeya Vidyalaya, Port Blair.

The aspirants and their parents met the PCC Chief at Gandhi Bhavan and narrated their misery of not getting admission in the college due to scarcity of seats since the facility of 2nd shift introduced last year, has been withdrawn.

Sharma briefed the CS that last year with much efforts of the Congress Party, the A&N Administration has introduced the 2nd Shift in Jawahar Lal Nehru Rajakiya Vidyalaya under Pondicerry University, which in the current academic session has been withdrawn causing distress in  large number of students who have applied for getting admission in various streams in the College.

Sharma said as per his information about 2,100 students have applied for getting seat in their desired courses in the College but since the 2nd shift has been withdrawn and there is scarcity of seats in the College, a large number of students have been refused admission.

The Chief Secretary and  Smti Rina Ray, Principal Secretary Education have given a patient hearing and  assured reintroduction of 2nd shit in the College.

Port Blair, Aug. 6: The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray has expressed his gratitude and eulogize to the Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. (Retd) AK Singh for taking proper cognizance to the call communication forwarded by the Member of Parliament relating to public issues.

Recently the MP had requested for age relaxation of the candidates of the “Sarva Siksha Abhian” on Aug. 1, 2013 and to extend the last date for submitting of application upto 5th Aug. 2013. The LG has received his own signature and immediately directed the Chief Secretary to look into the matter.

Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament has condoled the death of Shri P.K. Kapoor, 64 (Retd. Executive Engineer), F/o Sandeep Kapoor, R/o Phoenix Bay who breathed his last today at G.B. Pant following a massive heart attack. The MP prays to the Almighty to give eternal rest to the soul of the departed and strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss. 

PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma and all leaders deeply mourn the death of Shri PK Kapoor, Retired Executive Engineer, Electricity deptt., R/o of Phoenix Bay who left for heavenly abode today. The Party also mourn the deaths of Shri U Rajkumar, 55 years, R/o Aberdeen Village, and Harbans Lall, aged 90 years, R/o Austinabad who left for heavenly abode and pray to Almighty for the eternal peace to the departed souls and their family members

Port Blair, Aug. 6: An interaction with the press was held at Raj Niwas, Port Blair in which Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. (Retd) AK Singh interacted with the media. Various issues were discussed during the meeting and the Lt. Governor gave a patient hearing to the suggestions given by the media. Soon after the meeting, Andaman Chronicle intimated the Lt. Governor of the suggestions pouring in on development of tourism sector and other issues pertaining to the holistic development of the islands. The suggestions in hard copy have been submitted to the Lt. Governor, to which His Excellency assured to go through personally.

Port Blair, Aug. 6: Shri P.K. Kapoor, Retd. Executive Engineer, Electricity Department passed away today at GB Pant Hospital following a massive heart attack. He was 64. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Andaman Chronicle mourns the sad demise of Shri Kapoor and prays to the Almighty to give eternal rest to the departed and enough courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Port Blair, Aug. 5: Five persons have been arrested for gambling at an abandoned building in Phoenix Bay in the evening hours on Sunday 4th Aug.  An amount of Rs. 56,675/- of gambling cash has been seized from them.

On receipt of a secret information, a Police team of PS Central Crime Station comprising of Insp. R.K. Sharma, SHO CCS, SI Usman Ali, SI N. Zainuddin, HC K.O. Vargese, PCs S. Baroi, Laxman, Sujit Dutta, N.C.Sarkar,  Amit Khalko and Arindam Mirdha, and HGs Shahir Ali and Shanmukh Rao conducted a raid at an abandoned building on Sea Shore Road near Fisheries Zonal Office and apprehended 5 persons namely (1) M. Rajendran (38), r/o Junglighat (2) Ishwar Das (36), r/o Pahargaon  (3) Laxman (37), r/o Junglighat (4) Moung Noe Aye (53), r/o Aberdeen Bazaar and (5) Sernus Bara (41), r/o Junglighat from the gambling den. Rs. 56, 675/- (Fifty six thousand six hundred seventy five) was seized from them. All five persons were arrested on the spot under Andaman & Nicobar Gambling Regulation 1956.

Two of the arrested persons, Moung Noe Aye and Sernus Bara, being police personnel, have been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
