On the holy occasion of ‘Id-ul-Fitr’, I extend my heartiest greetings to the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The festival of joy and brotherhood marks the culmination of month long fast observed during Ramzan. May this festival bring in an era of prosperity and happiness for all the islanders and help strengthen the bond of unity prevailing amongst the peace loving people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Port Blair, Aug. 8: Shri G Krishnamoorthy of Bharatiya Janata Party, Panchayat Member of Sippighat Gram Panchayat has joined the Congress Party today. Krishnamoorthy has stated that only Indian National Congress Party can bring all round development in the Country and Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President is the best choice as the leader of the general public.

Port Blair, Aug. 8: In a simple function organised, Shri P.B. Murugan, Chairperson, Port Blair Municipal Council in the presence of Shri Azizur Rehman, Councillor, PBMC laid the foundation stone of ‘Boundary Wall of Muslim Burial Ground’ at Phoenix Bay, Ward No. 6 on 6th Aug. 2013.

Port Blair, Aug. 7: The PCC President, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma along with a delegation of PRI members and youths met the Director, Youth Affairs, Sports, Arts and Culture (YAS&C) Mr Lucas Robert. During the discussion, Sharma stated that during his visit to the villages of South Andaman, the youths of Stewardgunj have informed that due to non availability of playground the youth folk are facing acute difficulty for practicing various sports. They are forced to spend their spare time on gossiping or loitering.

The PCC Prez also informed that the youths of Wimberligunj stated that they have a very good ground, which can be converted as a stadium, which will motivate the youth towards sports. The stadium can also be used to arrange many sports events.

The Director was thus requested to consider a playground at Stewardgunj and a stadium at Wimberlilgunj as a welfare measure for the overall development of the youths of the areas. The Director has given a patient hearing and assured to look into the matter.

Port Blair, Aug. 8: The Sound and Light system at Cellular Jail is being technically upgraded through India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) Ltd. The Sound and Light shows shall remain suspended for three weeks w.e.f. 09.08.2013 due to the ongoing up gradation of the system. Inconvenience is regretted.

 

Port Blair, Aug. 7: A newly renovated Photo Gallery ‘Andaman in Olden Days’ will be inaugurated by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration on 8th August 2013 at 10.30 am in the premises of the National Memorial Cellular Jail. The gallery consists of rare archival photographs of Andaman Islands during 1864-1945. This renovated Gallery would be an added attraction for the visitors and tourists in the National Memorial.
