Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 4: Following the recent rate revisions and regulatory changes under GST 2.0, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has intensified its compliance enforcement measures across the Union Territory. Despite sufficient time and wide dissemination of the updated provisions, it has been observed that several business establishments continue to operate without adhering to the revised GST rates, exemptions and reporting norms.
Under the guidance of the Commissioner (UTGST), dedicated enforcement teams have been conducting surprise inspections of business establishments across Sri Vijaya Puram and adjoining areas since 22nd September, 2025. As part of this ongoing drive, 46 business units were inspected to verify compliance with the latest GST provisions.
During these inspections, instances of non-compliance including incorrect rate application, non-display of GST registration details and failure to issue tax invoices as per the prescribed format were identified. On-the-spot penalties were levied in accordance with the provisions of the GST Act and Rules. A total penalty amount of Rs. 2.53 lakh has been recovered from defaulting establishments to date.
The Department reiterates that this enforcement initiative is part of a sustained compliance campaign aimed at ensuring that all registered taxpayers align with the revised GST framework. The drive will continue in the coming weeks, covering additional sectors and regions across the Islands.
Businesses are advised to strictly adhere to the revised GST rates, exemption notifications, and procedural requirements to avoid penal action. Continued non-compliance will attract penalties and where necessary, prosecution under the applicable sections of the GST law.
Citizens and traders are also encouraged to play an active role in ensuring transparency in the tax ecosystem. Any instance of GST-related irregularities or non-compliance may be reported via WhatsApp at 9595359698. The Department also welcomes queries or requests for clarification regarding GST rates, exemptions or related matters. The GST Department remains committed to promoting voluntary compliance and protecting consumer interests by ensuring that the benefits of tax reforms under GST 2.0 are effectively passed on to the public.
