Appeals to Encourage People to Mandatorily Take Vaccination

Port Blair, April 24: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Jitendra Narain today interacted with heads and representatives of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and sought their active cooperation in Administration’s fight against COVID-19. He outlined the various steps taken by the Administration to contain the spread of COVID-19 cases across the Islands. While addressing the religious heads/representatives, the Chief Secretary said, the country is currently fighting a tough battle against the virus and the priority of the Administration is to protect every islander from the pandemic. Stating that there is an exponential spike in the number of positive cases in the country, he said, the situation in the Islands is not that alarming, but we need to be extremely cautious and there is no room for complacency.

Port Blair, April 25: Consequent on emerging pandemic situation the Joint Secretary (Hr Edn), A&N Administration has accorded approval to close the colleges under A&N Administration with immediate effect for a period of four weeks as a preventive measure to stop the spread of Corona Virus (COVID-19) till further orders.

Port Blair, April 23: In order to enforce strict compliance of the National Directives of COVID-19 in South Andaman and Nicobar Districts, the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned district have ordered restrictions which are as follows:

Public Transport/ Buses shall be allowed to ply at the maximum of 50% seating capacity. Any person/ owner violating the above directions shall be liable to be fined to the tune of Rs. 5,000/-.

Port Blair, April 25: A COVID-19 prevention and vaccination drive was organised by Living On The Edge (LOTE), Hindu Seva Sangh (HSS) in association with District Administration, South Andaman and Directorate of Health and Services at Nayabasti Durga Pooja Hall, at Bambooflat village of South Andaman district today.

“There are lot of people who meet the criteria, either above the age of 60 or are at least 45 years old, but left out of the vaccination drive unintentionally”, said Mr.Abhay Kumar, President LOTE. Hence LOTE, HSS has conducted a special drive to get them vaccinated.

97,445 Doses of Vaccine Administered So Far

Port Blair, April 23: The vaccination sessions are continuing in more than 88 designated vaccination centres set up in different parts of the Islands towards the fight against Corona virus in A& Islands. The health teams designated in various vaccination centres spread across the Islands are vaccinating all the beneficiaries who visit the centre on a daily basis. Today, 2885 doses of vaccines were administered to the eligible beneficiaries by the health teams, taking the total number of doses of vaccines administered so far to 97,445.
