Trawler’s Activities Also Poses Threat to the State Animal ‘Dugong’

Shaheed Dweep, April 30: A fishing trawler has been found illegally fishing in the shallow waters of Shaheed Dweep, at a spot where there have been regular sightings of Andaman & Nicobar Islands’ state animal ‘Dugong’.

The trawler named ‘Sea Bird 1’ has been noticed in the same spot since past couple of days, continuing the fishing activities in spite of the A&N Administration’s advice to the fishing community of A&N Islands to comply with A&N Marine Fishing Rules.

Port Blair, April 30: Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency reviewed a Presentation made by Consultants on initial draft Master Plan for Great Nicobar Island Township. Holistic development of various visionary mega Projects with investments of over Rs. 75,000/- crore under Maritime India Vision 2030 including International container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT), Green Field Airport, Power Plant nearing finalisation of preparatory phase and will prove to be a Force multiplier aimed in developing A&N Islands as Economic Hub. Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary and Senior Officers of A&N Administration and A&N Forest were also present.

Port Blair, April 30: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to assess the losses incurred in Biliground Bazaar Fire Incident by the public and release early compensation.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament mentioned that a massive Fire broke out at Billiground at around 1:50 AM, engulfing 14 shops constructed primarily of wood.

Port Blair, April 30: It is a proud moment for the islanders, as Smti. M Alamelu, HGC, who is attached to the APCCF (CRZ & FC) Van Sadan, Haddo office, is the first female arbiter from these islands to be awarded the prestigious FIDE Arbiter Title. Her FIDE Arbiter Title was recognised by the International Chess Federation during the 1st FIDE Council 2024, which took place from 8-12 April 2024, and her FA title certificate was awarded today.

Port Blair, April 30: The ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker has written a letter to the Hon'ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and drew his attention towards the 500+ Govt. Posts which were left unfilled/abolished due to Administrative Reasons and ineligibility of candidates in Trade/Skill test during the recent MTS Examination held in 2023.

In the letter Mr. Bhasker said that the A&N Administration had advertised 2,520 posts of Matric Level and the examination for it was conducted in July, 2023. Later, on 06th February, 2024, the Administration had issued a Press Release stating that 248 posts out of 2,520 posts will remain unfilled due to the candidates not able to fulfill the eligibility criteria for certain posts having Trade/Skill test.
