Port Blair, Sept. 20: Keeping in view the forthcoming festive seasons starting from the month of October and in view of the constraints, safety aspects, cleanliness of business premises and also to prevent import and sale of banned fireworks, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS held a meeting with all the stakeholders for retails sale of crackers.

Port Blair, Sept. 20: Zilla Parishad Member, Miss V. K. Mariyam Bibi and Pradhan Hopetown met Smti Veditha Reddy, Secretary Education in her chamber on 19.09.2022. They informed the Secretary about the long pending demand for a school auditorium and playground at GSSS Bambooflat, which was approved in various PTA and Gram Sabha meetings. They also requested for maintenance of school furniture and buildings which are in dilapidated condition.

Port Blair, Sept. 20: A beach cleanliness drive was conducted this morning at Sitapur Beach, Shaheed Dweep. The drive was led by the In-Charge, Hawabill Nest Yatri Niwas, IP&T, Shri M Madhavan. The Pramukh, Gram Panchayat, Shaheed Dweep, Smt. Champa Das, Police personnel, Revenue Department and Life Guards, participated in the drive. Eight gunny bags of garbage containing plastic bottles, wrappers, glass bottles were collected during the drive and the same was transported through the Panchayat to the Dumping Yard of Shaheed Dweep.

Port Blair, Sept. 20: Acting on a specific intelligence input received from reliable source, Police team from Central Crime Station consisting of SI M.A Rasheed, Head Constables Sanjay Kujur and K.Venkateshwar Rao and Constables N.Thangaraj, G.Ravi, K.Rajendran & Elizabeth intercepted one person namely Pankaj Poddar S/o Late Mahananda Poddar, resident of Shaheed Dweep at VSI Airport who arrived Port Blair from Kolkata on 20/09/2022 by flight. During checking of his personnel belongings, 4.440 Kgs of Ganja which was clandestinely concealed in the bag was seized and accused person was arrested observing all codal formalities.

Port Blair, Sept. 20: Two positive case have been detected today in A&N Islands from incoming flight passengers who arrived here yesterday. Today, 2 flights with 1842 passengers arrived, out of which, 1688 passengers were vaccinated with both doses while RT-PCR test was conducted on 124 passengers and the reports are awaited.
