Mayabunder, May 7: In response to the growing concern faced by the people of N&M Andaman, the Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman held a meeting today to review the status of water supply in the district. He directed the concerned officials to identify new sources of water and focus on augmentation of existing sources in order to mitigate the water supply demand.

Car Nicobar, May 7: Nicobar District Police proudly organizes Dr. B. Srikanth Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament 2024, Season-VIII, in the memory of Late Dr. B. Srikanth, IPS, who served as the Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District. The inaugural function took place at BJR Stadium, Tamaloo, Car Nicobar on 05/05/2024.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Group Captain Rajiv Dobhal VM (G), Station Commander, Air Force Station, Car Nicobar, who presided as the Chief Guest, and Sh. Lionald Nicomede, Chairman, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, who attended as the Guest of Honour. The occasion commenced with a heartfelt floral tribute to the Late Dr. B. Srikanth, IPS, followed by a solemn two-minute silence prayer in his memory.

Port Blair, May 7: The District Administration, South Andaman District in its continuous efforts to contain the encroachments over Government lands, carried out eviction drives at Port Blair Tehsil. During the drive, encroachments done in the shape of temporary sheds at South Point village near wireless quarters and APWD quarters under Port Blair Tehsil were evicted and a house and plantation at Shyamnagar Village, Swaraj Dweep was evicted. An area of 1000 sq. mtrs approximately has been restored to Government Khata with the assistance of Patwari, Patwari Assistant and CDVs in the Tehsil.

Port Blair, May 7: To promote the sports culture in the A&N Islands, the Andaman & Nicobar Police intends to organize the 1st DGP Cup A&N State Open Chess Tournament 2024 in collaboration with the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) at the Armed Police Unit, Police Line on the 11th and 12th of May 2024.

The tournament will be played under FIDE Chess Regulations and the Swiss System, and players must be from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. AICF registration for the year 2024-25 is mandatory for participation. The entry fee for participation in the said event is Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred only).

Port Blair, May 7: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress President, Shri. Rangalal Halder has addressed a critical issue to the Directorate of Health Services regarding the severe shortage of doctors at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Garacharma.

In his letter Mr. Halder said that the CHC Garacharma plays a vital role in providing healthcare services to the patients but the current shortage of doctors has resulted in significant challenges for patients seeking medical attention.
