Port Blair, Aug 27: The vessel MV Swaraj Dweep which sailed from Chennai is expected to arrive at Port Blair on Aug. 28, 2023 at 1900 hrs. She has on board a total of 81 passengers, 271 MT of Cargo and 22 Containers. On arrival at Port Blair, the vessel will be berthed at Haddo Wharf and passengers will be disembarked immediately.

Port Blair, Aug 25: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary to set up a Fire Service Unit in Long Island, Middle Andaman.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that on 23rd August 2023, a devastating fire broke out at a private resort of Long Island, causing extensive damage to the private resort.

Diglipur, Aug 25: The Ministry of ‘Jal Shakti’ has expressed immense satisfaction over the performance and functioning of the Kalpong Hydroelectric Project. In an awareness Programme under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, held at Nabagram Community Hall today, to sensitize the stakeholders on ‘Promotion on improved Resources Management’, the Under Secretary of the Ministry, Shri Anil Kumar Sharma said that it's been 22 long years since its inception in the year 2001 and still it has been catering to the need of the power generation in this vast North Andaman region.

Port Blair, Aug 25: Andaman & Nicobar Forest Department Workers Union (CITU) has conducted a Mass Demonstration today (25.08.2023) at 4 p.m. in front of the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests at Haddo, Port Blair demanding (i) continuous service for all Daily Rated Mazdoors of Forest Department (ii) Stop treating DRMs as Seasonal Workers (iii) Grant 1/30th of pay to all DRMs of Forest Department (v) Regularise the services of all DRMs of Forest Department, etc. Hundreds of workers of Forest Department working at Port Blair and rural South Andaman areas participated in the mass demonstration.
