Over the years, the Indian Coast Guard has transformed into a formidable maritime entity, serving as a reliable ally for the local communities in these pristine Islands.

Port Blair, Jan 31: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is celebrating its 48th Raising Day on 01 Feb 2024. From a modest beginning with just 07 surface platforms in 1978, ICG has grown into a formidable force with 152 ships and 78 aircraft in its inventory and is likely to achieve targeted force levels of 200 surface platforms and 100 aircraft by 2030.

ICG is now considered to be one of renowned Coast Guards in the world due to its achievements and for the efficiency with which it operates its assets in a challenging environment, thereby ensuring round the clock safety and security. True to its motto “Vayam Rakshamah” meaning “We Protect”, the service has to its credit, saving over 11,554 lives since its inception in 1977 and 200 lives in the year 2023, which translates into saving one precious life every second day.

I extend warm greetings to all Coast Guard personnel on the occasion of 48th Raising Day of the Indian Coast Guard. The Indian Coast Guard, established on February 1, 1977, has been a beacon of professionalism, safeguarding our coasts and ensuring maritime security.

Over the years, the Coast Guard has played a crucial role in maintaining the safety of fishermen, mariners, and our extensive coastline. The dedication and valour exhibited by the Coast Guard personnel in facing maritime challenges have been commendable.
