Port Blair, Oct. 27: The Government of India has envisaged and launched a campaign ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ (MMMD) across the country as a finale programme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. In this regard, a State Level send off programme of Amrit Kalash Yatra under ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign was organized in the Auditorium of Tagore Government College of Education (TGCE), Middle Point today. Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency was the chief guest on the occasion. The Chief Secretary (I/C), Shri Nikhil Kumar,IAS, PCCF, Shri T S Ashok Kumar, IFS,  Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, senior Officers of A&N Administration were present on the occasion.

Port Blair, Oct. 27: Yet another chess player from the A & N Islands attains the FIDE Arena title. A Chirag Kumar, a young chess player, has made the islanders proud by attaining the FIDE Arena title. He is the fourth player from the islands to achieve the FIDE Arena title.

Port Blair, Oct. 27: It has been observed that abandoned vehicles on the roadsides within the Port Blair Municipal area has become a growing concern, creating a multitude of issues for the general public and these discarded vehicles not only cause inconvenience to road users but also pose a significant threat to road safety.

Abandoned vehicles can disrupt the normal flow of traffic, leading to congestion and increasing the likelihood of accidents. Such incidents can result in injuries, even loss of life and making streets less safe for everyone.

Port Blair, Oct. 27: Adopting the zero tolerance policy of A&N Police, on 23/10/2023, acting on credible information the Bambooflat Police Station team headed by Shri Arshdeep Singh Panwar, DANIPS, SDPO, Bambooflat intercepted one person namely Zakir Hussain for carrying illicit ganja, behind village road of Surya Chakra Power House, Bambooflat and recovered 20 Grams of Illicit Ganja from his possession. Accordingly, a case was registered at PS Bambooflat against Zakir Hussain Mondal @ Bappi, S/o Late Rajak Mondal, (29) yrs., R/o Rented house, Shore Point under NDPS Act.

Port Blair, Oct. 27: In a concerted effort to combat the production and distribution of illicit liquor in the Kishorinagar and surrounding areas, a joint police team from OP Kishorinagar and PS Kalighat conducted extensive jungle searches in the Talbagan and Paschimsagar regions.

The team discovered approximately 1000 liters of lahen hidden within the jungle of Paschimsagar and Talbagan. The contraband was found in various containers, viz. plastic drum, bucket & plastic jerrican. The recovered illicit lahan and involved utensils were destroyed on the spot.
