Port Blair, May 9: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to provide a single-window system for all kinds of permissions related to new tourism projects. According to the Member of Parliament this will not only ease the process of doing business but also attract more investors to Andaman and enable local entrepreneurs to set up new ventures to attract tourists and promote tourism in these Islands.

Port Blair, May 9: The Port Blair Municipal Council has initiated several measures to improve water infrastructure within the city to cope with the existing demand. As part of this, cleaning and desilting of the existing ponds and wells are being undertaken. PBMC has installed bore wells at various places to mitigate the present crisis to meet the demand of the adjoining areas of New Pahargaon. In order to arrest wastage of water, PBMC has issued advisory to install bell type float valves. Apart from this, inspection teams constituted by the Council are carrying out house to house/commercial/institution inspections to check for its compliance. PBMC has strengthened its Complaint Mechanism to arrest leakage of water.

Port Blair, May 9: Cruise Ship ‘Insignia’ carrying 458 tourists arrived at Haddo Wharf from Colombo today morning. The cruise tourists while disembarking from the ship were given a traditional welcome by the staff of IP&T Department in the Passenger Terminal premises at Haddo Wharf. The tourists on board the vessel visited various tourist interest spots in and around the town. They also visited National Memorial Cellular Jail.

Port Blair, May 9: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Andaman & Nicobar State Committee strongly condemn the action on the part of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to dishonor the judgement of the Division Bench of the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta on 19.12.2023 (Hon’ble Lt. Governor-vs-ASNVMS - MA/9/2020) in respect of grant of 1/30th of pay plus DA to all daily rated mazdoors working under the A & N Administration. The Division Bench of the Hon’ble High Court had directed the Appellant Govt of India and A & N Administration to grant 1/30th of pay plus DA to DRMs from September, 2017, modifying the order of the single bench of the High Court which had on 13.12.2019 ordered the Administration to pay the said benefit from the date of initial appointment of DRM or the date of issue of Govt. of India’s order in1988 as the case may be.  

Port Blair, May 9: The Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Andaman Ship Owners Association and the Tourism stake-holders of the islands are delighted that the first cruise vessel MV Insignia with 450 passengers called Port Blair today the 9th May 2023. This is the first cruise vessel to call at Port Blair after four long years and we hope that more such vessels will call in the near future and the years to come. The Chamber has thanked the Andaman Administration for their support especially Shri Vinay Bhushan, Secretary, Tourism for having coordinated the entire requirements of the arrival and stay of the vessel and ensuring that the visit went of smoothly with the support of the various wings of the Administration and government viz. Immigration, police, transport, Customs, Port Health, Port Management Board and Andaman & Nicobar Command.
