Port Blair, May 7: IGNOU, Regional Centre, Port Blair is organising an essay competition on the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore for class 11th & 12th students, and registered/alumni IGNOU students of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The essay can be written on one of these two topics: - “Relevance of Rabindranath Tagore`s humanism in contemporary times or Rabindranath Tagore`s vision on education system in the context of Visva-Bharati University, Shanti Niketan.

Port Blair, May 6: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to extend Stage – I of Rutland water Supply Project and to begin Stage – II water Supply Project to obtain a total of 22.60 MLD of water from existing 6.60 MLD of water from Rutland.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament said that he mentioned that it is encouraging to note and observe that A & N Administration is making serious note of potable water crises in the peak summer months and is taking steady steps in ameliorating the water demand of Port Blair City for summer months by initiating the feasible and viable proposals.

Port Blair, May 6: In a significant breakthrough the Police Station Cyber Crime has successfully apprehended a person named Vijay Victor, aged about 30 years for circulating intimate video of a victim girl over WhatsApp.

A formal complaint was lodged by the victim in which she stated that, earlier she was in a relationship with the offender for more than four years and at that time, the offender had recorded their intimate moments in his mobile phone. Later, when the relationship turned sour, then in order to teach the victim a lesson the offender circulated their intimate video over WhatsApp.

Port Blair, May 6: The Government of India initiative to integrate emergency Helplines into a single Helpline has resulted in the rolling out of 112 number. ERSS-112, launched in 2019 in A & N Islands, offers residents the opportunity to access emergency services through the 112 helpline during any crisis. ERSS is a unified, Andaman-wide response system, accessible through the single number 112, providing immediate assistance from agencies such as Police (100), Fire (101), Health (102) and Disaster Management.
