Port Blair, Sept. 5: The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration is extending support to the fishers and interested entrepreneurs for development of post-harvest infrastructures in the form of Cold Chains for reduction of post-harvest losses by creating processing, storage, value addition, packaging and transport facilities for fish and fisheries products under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). Fish being a perishable commodity, the Department has prioritized the establishment of adequate ice production and cold storage facilities for enhancing the trading and export of seafood from these Islands. The aim of developing such facilities in private sector by extending financial assistance under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana is to increase the participation of traditional fisherman community in the fisheries business as well as for ensuring adequate supply/ availability of ice in affordable rates for the fisherman community.

Port Blair, Sept 5:  Chinmaya Mission Port Blair is organizing a week long Shrimad Bhagwat Saptah (KATHA) from September 10 to September 17, 2022 at Mission Auditorium. On the first day of Bhagwat Saptah kalash yatra will be taken out from Gandhi Park to Chinmaya Mission on 10th September 2022 at 4 pm. Every day Katha will be held from 4.30 pm to  8 pm. Around 40 delegates from mainland are also attending the programme. Mission has invited all the people for katha.

Car Nicobar, Sept. 5: To promote consumption of fish and nutritional benefits of sea food, the Zonal Fisheries Office, Nicobar organized ‘Car Nic Sea Food Festival’ at Fish Landing Centre, Tee-Top, Car Nicobar yesterday as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ under PMMSY. Shri Yash Chaudhary, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Nicobar) was the chief guest on the occasion. Shri Martin Luther, Secretary, Tribal Council Car Nicobar, Shri Fred, First Captain, Sawai Village, Shri Anthony, Headman, Tee-top Village and officials from Agriculture and AH&VS Department were also present.

Port Blair, Sept. 5: The 25th Death Anniversary of Shri N. Vasudevan, Former President of CITU State Committee and Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association was observed on 4th Sept 2022. A meeting was held at Crusade House, Phoenix Bay, Port Blair which paid rich homage to the memory of Shri N. Vasudevan.  Leaders of CITU and Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association recalled the contribution of Shri N. Vasudevan to the working class movement in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.   Shri D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU A & N State Committee, Shri SP Kalairajan, Circle Secretary, BSNL Employees Union and SL Vinjit, Asst General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association spoke on the occasion.
