Port Blair, April 16: The District Administration, South Andaman has been taking many pro-active steps in reaching out to eligible voters especially senior citizens and divyangjans. In this regard, special drive was undertaken by facilitating postal ballots on 12.04.2024 and 13.04.2024 at their households. Auto and Taxi Associations were also sensitized and advised to provide free ride between their home and Polling Stations. All Polling Stations are made Divyang friendly by providing suitable ramps. Similarly, wheelchairs have also been made available in the Polling Stations.

Port Blair, April 16: In the run up to Lok Sabha Polls on April 19, and in our commitment to make the Islands Drug Free with the help of all stakeholders and in pursuance of the directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Mohanlal-Vs-Union of India and Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances  (Seizure, Storage, Sampling and Disposal) Rules 2022, drug disposal for multiple case properties from various police stations was initiated at 1000 hrs on 16/04/2024 by the CID Unit under the supervision of the UT Level Drug Disposal Committee chaired by Smt Varsha Sharma (IPS), DIGP (L&O). The committee members included Sh. Rajeev Ranjan (IPS), SP(CID), Sh. Mohd. Irshad Haider, (IPS), SP(HQ), and Kumar Abhishek, DySP (CID) along with the Officers from the A&N Pollution Control Board, Enviro Check (for measuring emitting pollutants), and GB Pant Hospital.

Port Blair, April 16: The Election Commission of India has asked Political Parties or Candidates or any other Organizations or Person to refrain from publishing any advertisement in the print media without Pre-certification on Poll Day and one day prior to Poll Day.

The Election Commission in its letter issued to the Chief Electoral Officers of all States & UTs on April 1,2024, has stated that instances of advertisements of offending and misleading nature published in print media have been brought to the notice of the Commission in the past. Such advertisements in the last stage of the election vitiate the entire election process and the affected candidates and parties will not have any opportunity of providing clarification/rebuttal in such cases.

Port Blair, April 16: The Excise team of PS Diglipur consisting of SI Dheeraj Kishen, HC (IRBn) Khokan Ch. Das, PCs K.K Pandey, Hari Krishna and Trilochni has once again demonstrated their commitment to combating the illegal sale and distribution of alcohol within the region. Acting on credible information’s, the team launched a series of targeted raids across various locations, resulting in the successful confiscation of a substantial quantity of illicit IMFL. During the meticulously executed operations, the Excise team of PS Diglipur confiscated a total of 70 bottles of IMFL of different quantities along with 03 bottles of beer. Furthermore, the team seized 12 Kg of illicit Handia, underscoring the gravity of the illicit alcohol trade within the area. Subsequently, cases were registered under relevant sections of Excise Regulation.

Port Blair, April 16: The Election Commission of India has issued strict standing instructions that no cellular (mobile)/cordless/wireless phone sets, are allowed inside the Polling Stations and also in the 100 meters perimeter of Polling Stations by the voters while exercising their franchise in order to maintain the secrecy of voting process.
