Unni Mohammed Haji R/o Mannarghat, who expired today on 17.02.2023 at PHC Wimberlygunj. Shri Jolly prayed to the Almighty to give peace to his eternal soul departed for heavenly abode and give strength to his bereaved family member to bear this irreparable loss.

Port Blair, Feb 16: Seeking urgent attention towards the Human-Crocodile Conflict in A&N Islands, the Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands to address this serious issue.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the Human-Crocodile Conflict has resulted in several tragic incidents over the past few years, with several people losing their lives to crocodile attacks in various parts of the islands. Many of the victims of crocodile attacks were single breadwinners of the family and after their death, family members are going through difficult times.

Port Blair, Feb 16: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have expressed serious concern over the sky-rocketing airfare in Port Blair-Mainland sector during March, April and May due to the shortage of flight services owing to the re-surfacing of the Runway and other airport related work by the Andaman and Nicobar Command. In a letter addressed to the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India, the General Secretary of the Association, Shri R. Rajendran has told that the re-surfacing work being carried out in the one and only runway at Port Blair which is to continue till May 2023, has resulted in the increase of flight fares in Port Blair-Mainland sector and the common public as well as Govt. servants badly affected due to this.

Port Blair, Feb 16: The family of Late Samir Acharya today presented the ‘Samir Acharya Memorial Award’ for conservation of coastal and island ecosystems. The award was presented by Smti. Geetanjali Acharya to Shri. Ashraf Hanif, S/o of Retd. Dy. Director Education Dr Leela Verghese at a function held at Ummat Public School. The award was presented in the presence of Shri. Rajesh Anand, the most generous philanthropist in the Islands, who also is a close associate and well-wisher of the Acharya family. Shri. Samir Acharya was a renowned environmentalist and dedicated his entire life to the islands. He was instrumental in the Supreme Court order of 2002 on the ban of sea sand mining, ban on deforestation and ban on influx of non-islanders.

Car Nicobar, Feb. 16: In order to augment and support the health infrastructure in the Nicobar Island, two Ambulances were provided by ANIIDCO, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The Ambulance was flagged off today and was handed over to the District Health Society, Nicobar District and is placed in BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar and Primary Health Centre, Campbell Bay. This will immensely benefit the local residents of Nicobar District and enhance the Health Department’s capability in dealing with any emergency situation in a prompt manner.
