Port Blair, Oct. 27: It has been observed that abandoned vehicles on the roadsides within the Port Blair Municipal area has become a growing concern, creating a multitude of issues for the general public and these discarded vehicles not only cause inconvenience to road users but also pose a significant threat to road safety.

Abandoned vehicles can disrupt the normal flow of traffic, leading to congestion and increasing the likelihood of accidents. Such incidents can result in injuries, even loss of life and making streets less safe for everyone.

Port Blair, Oct. 27: In a concerted effort to combat the production and distribution of illicit liquor in the Kishorinagar and surrounding areas, a joint police team from OP Kishorinagar and PS Kalighat conducted extensive jungle searches in the Talbagan and Paschimsagar regions.

The team discovered approximately 1000 liters of lahen hidden within the jungle of Paschimsagar and Talbagan. The contraband was found in various containers, viz. plastic drum, bucket & plastic jerrican. The recovered illicit lahan and involved utensils were destroyed on the spot.

Port Blair, Oct. 27: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Shri B S Jaglan, IAS, in the Mini Conference Hall of Secretariat today with all the recognized Political Parties and media persons in connection with the publication of Draft Electoral Rolls-2024. The District Election Officer, Ms Veditha Reddy, IAS, the Electoral Registration Officer/Joint CEO, Shri Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Dy. CEO, Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS and Electoral related Officers were also present during the meeting.

Diglipur, Oct. 27: The Department of Agriculture in association with the Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTATMA) organized two days training programme on ‘Integrated pest and disease management in paddy crops’ in the Panchayat hall of Radhanagar (SAGY village), Diglipur on Oct.26 & 27,2023.

Shri Rajendra Kumar, Block Development Officer, Diglipur who was the chief guest of the inaugural programme urged the farmers to upgrade their knowledge and skill through the training. Smti Arti Singh, Assistant Director (Agri) Diglipur welcomed the gathering and briefed about the importance of integrated pest and disease management in paddy crops. She also briefed about other schemes implemented by the Department of Agriculture viz. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Credit Card, Integrated Nutrient Management, Minimum Support Price, Rashtriya  Krishi Vikas Yojana, Mission for Integrated Development for Horticulture Crops etc.

Port Blair, Oct. 27: All Ration Card holders of the UT have been informed that the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has initiated the e-KYC of every member present in the respective Ration Card as per the mandate and directions of the Govt of India. Hence, all Ration Card holders (APL/PHH & AAY) have been requested to contact any of their nearest Fair Price Shop along with Aadhaar numbers and Ration Card to get e-KYC done for all the members listed in the Ration Card latest by 30th November, 2023.
