Mayabunder, July 20: The Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman, Shri Dilkhush Meena, IAS, conducted inspection of NH-4 roadway segment spanning from Panighat to Swadesh Nagar (KM 239+000 to 206+000), accompanied by General Manager, NHIDCL, PRI members, other officials from NHIDCL, as well as representatives from the executive agencies. During the visit, the DC, N&M Andaman, inspected various damaged stretches to verify the repair and maintenance work being carried out between Swadesh Nagar and Billiground, Basantipur Forest Section, and Rest Camp to Webi.

Port Blair, July 21: The two-days State Level ULLAS-Mela-2024 under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, ULLAS-Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram/New India Literacy Programme-NILP in the UT of A&N Islands concluded at Govt. Girls SSS Auditorium on July 19. The Director Education, Shri Aditya Kumar Jha was the chief guest of the valedictory function. He gave away Certificates, Mementoes’ and Trophy to the best performing CRCs, Blocks, District and Saakshar Mitras. 11 CRCs were presented Best CRC Certificates and Mementoes’ while 18 with best Saakshar Mitra award and 3 with best Resource Person awards. One Best Performing District award along with ‘Trophy’ was awarded to Nicobar District for their sustained efforts and services towards 100% literacy among tribal populace.

Port Blair, July 20: As part of World Youth Skills Day 2024 celebration, the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with Hope Foundation, Port Blair conducted Inclusive Sports Day aimed at empowering and showcasing the talents of disabled youths in the region.

The event, held at the CRC A&N Islands, Brookshabad, brought together young athletes with disabilities from various backgrounds to participate in a range of sporting and gaming activities like running, carom and soft ball throw etc, specially designed to accommodate their unique needs. The Inclusive Sports Day underscored the importance of providing equal opportunities for disabled youth to develop their skills, build self-confidence.

Port Blair, July 21: One Stop Centre under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized an online awareness session on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013. Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (SW), emphasized to create awareness among the women employees regarding various provisions of the POSH Act for the safety and security of working women.

Port Blair, July 20: Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2024 is being observed by all the Health facilities of the Union Territory of A&N Islands from 1st July which will continue till 31st August, 2024. To mark the event, a State level programme was organized by Directorate of Health Services in association with UT Health Mission today at the Community Hall, New Pahargaon, with the ultimate aim to ensure ‘Zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhoea among the under 05 children’. Dr. Suja Antony, Director, Health Services, A&N Administration, was the chief guest on the occasion while Smti Pandi Selvi, Ward Councillor, New Pahargaon, Ward number 20, South Andaman was the guest of honour.
