400 Students from Nicobar District Accompanied by 16 Escort Teachers to Embark on Educational/ Excursion/ Tour to Barren

Car Nicobar, Dec. 30: A group of 400 students from the Nicobar District will embark on an educational excursion/study tour to Barren Island on 31st December 2025. The students, hailing from various schools across the Nicobar District, in groups of 100 from Campbell Bay, 148 from Nancowry, and 150 from Car Nicobar has reached Sri Vijaya Puram for availing the sailing of MV Swaraj Dweep to Barren Island on Dec. 31. They are accompanied by 16 escort teachers, ensuring their safety and guidance throughout the trip.

This trip is part of a well-structured initiative by the Directorate of Education, Sri Vijaya Puram, aimed at providing students with a unique learning experience. Students will have the opportunity to explore the island and gain a deeper understanding of its geographical significance. The students from the Nicobar District boarded the vessel Nalanda today for the onward journey to Barren Island. The return journey will take place on 3rd January, 2026, following a stay at Sri Vijaya Puram.

The Directorate of Education has made extensive arrangements for the journey, ensuring safe travel and suitable accommodations for both students and escort teachers. This initiative is particularly significant for students from the far-flung areas of the southern group of Islands, as it provides them with the rare opportunity to explore and learn about the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Zonal Officers of the three zones, along with parents, students, and teachers of the Nicobar District, extended their gratitude to the Director of Shipping Services, A&N Administration, for their support in making such vessels available for this excursion tour, which has played a crucial role in ensuring the success of this valuable tour.

The excursion to Barren Island is designed to enrich students’ knowledge of the region, enabling them to experience the unique natural environment firsthand. Such exposure is expected to inspire a deeper appreciation for the biodiversity and ecological importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
