
Sri Vijaya Puram, March 17: Demonstrating its firm commitment in combating drug trafficking and substance abuse in the Islands, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station (ANPS), Andaman & Nicobar Police has achieved another significant breakthrough in the investigation of a Narcotics trafficking case registered earlier this year.
On 29.01.2026 at about 1000 hrs, credible and specific intelligence was received that a suspicious parcel sent anonymously from Kolkata through a private courier had reached the godown of a courier service at Sri Vijaya Puram, which was suspected to contain contraband substances. Acting swiftly on the information, and after completing legal formalities a raiding team of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station was constituted.
The team proceeded to the godown along with independent witnesses and verified the consignment records. It was found that the consignment consisted of three parcels, namely a refrigerator, MG-3 jars and a sound bar. The parcels were opened in the presence of witnesses and officers. During inspection of the refrigerator, seven packets wrapped with brown adhesive tape were found concealed inside the same. On examination, the packets were found to contain dry leafy substance with flowering tops emitting the characteristic odour of ganja, the same was tested using the field kit which tested positive for ganja.
The packets were weighed individually and the total quantity of ganja was found to be 7.365 kilograms. The contraband along with the articles used for concealment, namely the refrigerator, sound bar and mixer grinder, were seized and sealed on the spot following, the due legal procedures.
Accordingly, FIR No. 01/2026 dated 29.01.2026 was registered at Anti-Narcotics Police Station under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985, and investigation was taken up.
During the course of technical investigation, the accused Haripada Mondal, S/o Chandipada Mondal (34 yrs), R/o Amlamethi, Dighirpar Para, Gosaba, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, was traced to Kolkata. Accordingly, a police team consisting of SI A. Santhosh, PC Raja Rao and PC Anup Das proceeded to Kolkata on 10.03.2026 under the close supervision of Inspector K. Binoj, SHO, Anti-Narcotics Police Station. After sustained efforts, the team successfully apprehended the accused from Kolkata and brought him to Sri Vijaya Puram by air on 16.03.2026.
The accused shall be produced before the Hon’ble Court to obtain Police Custody (PC) remand for sustained interrogation to identify his associates involved in the narcotics network and to trace the financial trail connected with the trafficking of contraband.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Smt. Yogita Sharma, DANIPS, Dy.SP (Narcotics) and the overall supervision of Shri Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID), A&N Islands.
