Sri Vijaya Puram, April 15: The Census 2027 is being conducted in two phases, Phase-l i.e., Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) and Phase-II, i.e., Population Enumeration (PE). In the first phase, the data relating to assets and amenities available to the households is collected. The houselisting operation shall be conducted from 16th April, 2026 to 15th May, 2026. After successfully completion of self-enumeration stage of Census, Andaman and Nicobar Islands is entering into Houselisting phase of Census 2027 from today.
During the houselisting phase, the enumerators appointed for census work shall visit the area, prepare notional map of the area, assign building numbers to each building if systematic buildings are not present, and then collect information from each household. Even information about use of non-residential buildings shall be collected during this period.
The Director of Census Operations, A&N Islands, Ms Purva Garg (IAS) took a review meeting of all Principal Census Officers and Charge Census Officers to ascertain the preparedness for the field work. She directed to ensure timely completion of field work.
Residents of A&N Islands are appealed to extend full cooperation and provide accurate information during the HLO phase, when the enumerators visit households as the information shall also be used for future planning and welfare schemes of the Government.
A press-brief from Directorate of Census Operations, A&N Islands advised residents to beware of misinformation—no official will request identity related documents, bank details, OTPs, or financial information during the census work. All data shared will remain confidential under the Census Act, 1948.
