
Sri Vijaya Puram, April 15: The Electricity Department, with unwavering support of UT Administration, in its endeavor of providing a reliable power supply infrastructure, has reached another milestone, by augmenting 10 MW of power generation capacity at Chatham Power House.
It is reported that the upcoming 10 MW power plant at Chatham, was successfully tested to its full capacity on 14.04.2026, in the presence of Department Engineers and is all set for its commercial operation within 3–4 days, which shall bring significant relief to the residents of Sri Vijaya Puram and adjoining area of South Andaman.
It is unfortunate, that sudden breakdown of 5 Nos. DG sets, has slightly upset the power position of South Andaman, currently. However, sincere efforts of Department are underway to restore these breakdown DG sets to its full capacity within a week, which will further improve the power situation.
The Department has therefore requested its consumers to cooperate by resorting to judicious use of power which will help Department to bridge the shortfall until revival of all DG sets.
