A&N Administration Warns Owners of Abandoned Vehicles and Illegally Parked Vehicles

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 17: It has been observed that a lot of motor vehicles which come under the category of abandoned vehicles are found occupying the public place along the roads. It also found that a large number of private as well as commercial vehicles are being habitually parked along public roads, road berms, and road shoulders across the Islands, in complete disregard of traffic laws and public safety.

All vehicle owners and operators of abandoned vehicles as well as private and commercial running motor vehicles are illegally parked on the public roads, road berms, road shoulders or any non-designated area across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are hereby advised to remove all the such vehicles and relocate them to designated parking spaces within a period of 3 days from the date of publication of this press release.

Upon expiry of the aforesaid notice period, the Administration, shall initiate strict enforcement action against all vehicles found parked illegally on public roads and road shoulders, under various Sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, 2017. 

Such motor vehicles would be towed away by the Enforcement teams. Enforcement action shall include imposition of fines, towing of vehicles at the owner’s expense, and wheel-clamping, in addition to any other action permissible under law. It is also informed that damage, if any arising during the towing and shifting operation, the vehicle owner would be held responsible. Therefore, owners of all such vehicles are humbly requested to remove their vehicles so as to avoid the towing and shifting operation of such vehicles. The public have been earnestly requested to cooperate with the Administration in this endeavour.
