Sri Vijaya Puram, April 17: The President of Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee has strongly urged the Directorate of Health Services, A & N Administration, to immediately address the acute shortage of bed screens in the Medical Wards of GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair.
In his letter, Shri. Halder expressed serious concern over the inadequate availability of bed screens, stating that at present; only one bed screen is available for nearly 30 beds in both male and female wards. He pointed out that this severe shortage is causing significant distress and inconvenience to patients during medical examinations, treatment procedures, and routine care.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Shri. Halder stated that the lack of proper screening arrangements compromises patient privacy and dignity, particularly affecting female patients and those undergoing sensitive medical procedures. He further noted that the absence of adequate partitions creates discomfort among patients and their attendants, resulting in a stressful and unpleasant environment within the wards.
He also emphasized that healthcare staff are facing challenges in delivering efficient and respectful care due to the lack of necessary facilities. Patients often feel hesitant and anxious under such conditions, which may adversely impact their cooperation during treatment and slow down their recovery process.
Shri. Halder has therefore appealed to the Director, DHS to take immediate steps to provide at least 3–4 additional bed screens in the Medical Wards to ensure patient comfort, maintain privacy, and enhance the overall standard of healthcare services at the hospital.
