A devoted and ardent follower of the legendary singer Mukesh Ji, Ashok Kumar carved a special place in the hearts of audiences through his soulful renditions. His singing carried the depth, pathos, and simplicity that defined Mukesh’s timeless singing, earning him admiration and affection from islanders of all generations.
Ashok Kumar was more than an artiste – he was an emotion for those who grew up listening to the golden era of Hindi film music. His voice had the rare ability to recreate the magic of classics, allowing listeners relive memories associated with the evergreen melodies in Indian cinema.
He was also a passionate fan of Kishore Kumar, reflecting his deep appreciation for the golden age of playback singing. However, his musical journey took a defining turn when he was introduced to Mukesh Ji’s songs through the cultural platform Indradhanush Sangeet Sangatthan, founded in 1989. He was closely associated with the organisation, where his growth as a Mukesh devotee and singer began to flourish. This association shaped his artistic identity, eventually making him a popular and prominent voice throughout the Islands. Over the years, he became a familiar and beloved figure at most of the musical gatherings, tribute shows, and community events.

Tributes have poured in from all quarters, remembering him not only as a gifted and dedicated artiste but also as a humble and warm-hearted human being. He was known as a gentle and approachable individual whose presence brought joy to those around him. His voice, often described as soothing and evocative, had the rare ability to comfort and connect people.
A musical tribute featuring the immortal songs of Mukesh Ji is being planned in his memory, where fellow artists, admirers, and well-wishers will come together to offer their homage.
