South Andaman Police Conducts Awareness Drive on Drug Abuse, Cyber Safety, Traffic Regulations and POCSO Act Across Schools

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 19: The South Andaman District Police successfully conducted a series of various awareness programmes across schools in South Andaman District. These initiatives focused on critical issues such as Drug abuse, Cybercrime, Traffic regulations and POCSO Act.

From 06th to 18th April, 2026, a total of Eight awareness programmes were organized by SHOs along with officers of South Andaman District Police in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Cell, A&N Police Kala Manch and PRAYAS NGO, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging approach to student outreach. The programmes were conducted on 06th April, 2026 in Govt Model Senior Secondary School and Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bhatubasti, on 10th April, 2026 in Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bambooflat, on 13th April, 2026 in Govt. Senior Secondary School, Manglutan, on 16th April, 2026 at KV-II, NCS & GSSS, Haddo and on 18th April, 2026 at Nirmala Senior Secondary School.

The sessions aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse, highlighting both the physical and legal consequences for using drugs. The students were also sensitized to the growing risks associated with online activities, including cyberbullying, identity theft and digital fraud. Practical guidance was provided on safe internet practices, privacy protections and proper use of social media platforms.

Further, students were informed about road safety rules, the importance of wearing helmets and seatbelts and the dangers of reckless driving. Special emphasis was also placed on educating students about the provisions of the POCSO Act and its salient features. Officers explained the legal framework designed for the protection of children from sexual offences and encouraged students to report any form of abuse without fear.

The involvement of A&N Police Kala Manch added a creative dimension through performances and role-plays, helping to reinforce key messages in an impactful manner.

The South Andaman District Police expressed their gratitude to school authorities and students for their enthusiastic participation and cooperation.

The department remains committed to continuing such outreach programmes in the future, ensuring that young individuals are well-educated about their rights, legal framework and responsibilities towards the society.
