XVI Inter Village Hodi Race Championship 2026 Successfully Organised at Car Nicobar

Car Nicobar, April 19: As part of the Tribal Culture Games, the traditional XVI Inter Village Hodi Race (Canoe Race) Championship 2026 was successfully held today at Chukchucha Village, Car Nicobar. The event showcased the rich cultural heritage and sporting traditions of the Nicobarese community, drawing enthusiastic participation from villagers and competitors.

Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary graced the occasion as the chief guest and formally flagged off the semi-finals and finals of the event amid great enthusiasm and community spirit. The programme was also attended by Shri Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District; Shri Rahul L. Nair, IPS, SP (D) and Dr. Naveen Kumar, AC (HQ)/PO (ITDP).

Following the event, a meeting was convened with the villagers of Car Nicobar, members of the Tribal Council and Heads of Offices/Departments (HOO/HODs). During the interaction, various issues and grievances raised by the local community were discussed in detail. The Chief Secretary directed all concerned Departments to address these matters in coordination with the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District to ensure timely and effective resolution.

As an initiative for the development of tribal communities in Nicobar District under the Integrated Tribal Development Programme (ITDP), the Chief Secretary presented 100 books to the Chairman Tribal Council, Car Nicobar (CTC) as a gesture to promote education and support knowledge development among tribal communities.

The programme reflected the Administration’s continued commitment to preserving tribal culture, strengthening community engagement, and advancing educational development in the islands.
