‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ to be Implemented in Remote Makachua Village of Little Nicobar

Little Nicobar, June 8: As part of the ongoing nationwide pre-kharif campaign ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ which was launched on May 29 all over the Islands, will also be implemented at Makachua village, Little Nicobar Islands, tentatively on 9th June, 2025. The campaign is being jointly executed by departmental officials, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and other stake holders. The event aims to ensure knowledge transfer, capacity building, access to Government schemes and better access to farming-related resources for the Island’s farming community.

The main highlights of the programme will be planting of fruit seedlings under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, Community sports to promote youth involvement and community engagement.

Similar programmes were also organised in Govind Nagar, Joginder Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Rajiv Nagar and Chingan villages of Great Nicobar Islands and Afra Bay and Pilopanja in Little Nicobar Islands since its launch. By 9th day of the campaign, a significant number of awareness programs like awareness camps, demonstrations, door to door field visit, sports events, have been conducted in which 407 farmers have attended.

As a special initiative, planting materials of spices for implementation of Pilot project on spices have also been started in which 172 nos. of clove seedlings and 169 nos. cinnamon were distributed to farmers. On farmers demand, 923 nos. black pepper and 16 nos. nutmeg seedlings were also distributed.
