MP Urges Review of Age Criteria for Certain Posts in A&N Police Recruitment

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 4: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has urged the Andaman and Nicobar Police to review and re-examine the age limit criteria prescribed for certain posts in the ongoing recruitment process.

In a communication addressed to the Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Shri Ray, Hon’ble MP appreciated the proactive initiative of the Police Department in launching recruitment for various Group ‘B’ (Non-Gazetted) and Group ‘C’ posts vide notification dated 24th April 2026. He noted that the recruitment drive would create significant employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of the Islands.

However, the MP highlighted concerns raised by several aspirants regarding discrepancies in the prescribed age limits for certain Group ‘C’ posts. While the general age criteria for most Group ‘C’ posts has been fixed at 18–33 years for males and 18–38 years for females, certain categories including Constables, Fitters, Diesel Mechanics, and Firemen appear to have differing age limits (i.e. 18-25/30 years), leading to confusion among candidates.

The MP pointed out that this variation seems inconsistent with the A&N Administration’s Circular dated 25th August 2025, which stipulates uniform upper age limits for Group ‘C’ posts as per existing notifications. The circular also directs departments to align their Recruitment Rules accordingly if any deviations exist.

Emphasizing the need for fairness and uniformity, Sri Ray stated that revising the age criteria in line with the Administration’s guidelines would allow a larger pool of eligible candidates to participate in the recruitment process.

He has requested the Police Department to examine the matter urgently and make necessary amendments to the recruitment notification at the earliest. A copy of the communication has also been forwarded to the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, for information and appropriate action.
