Sri Vijaya Puram, May 4: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has urged the Andaman and Nicobar Police to reconsider and postpone the Physical Endurance Test (PET) scheduled in June 2026 as part of the ongoing recruitment process to fix it after June 2026.
While appreciating the initiative of the Police Department in filling vacant posts and creating employment opportunities for local youth, the Hon’ble MP highlighted concerns regarding the timing of the PET. As per the official order dated 28th April 2026, the Physical Endurance Test is scheduled to be conducted from 1st June 2026 and is expected to continue throughout the month. The order also stipulates that no leave will be granted to police personnel during this period, except under unavoidable circumstances.
Drawing attention to established practice, Shri Ray noted that government employees, including police personnel, traditionally avail leave during the summer months of May and June. This period coincides with school vacations, allowing families to travel together to their hometowns. Many personnel have already made advance travel arrangements, including booking air and train tickets.
Hon’ble MP further pointed out that a significant number of aspiring candidates also travel to the mainland with their families during this time. Conducting the PET in June could therefore prevent many eligible youths from participating in the recruitment process due to their absence from the Islands, while also disrupting pre-planned leave of police personnel.
In view of these concerns, the Hon’ble MP has requested the authorities to postpone the Physical Endurance Test to a later date after June 2026. He emphasized that such a step would serve the larger interest of both police personnel and aspiring candidates, ensuring fair participation without causing inconvenience.
