Sri Vijaya Puram, May 10: An awareness-cum-interaction programme under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ was conducted today at District Prison, Prothrapur by National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), in collaboration with IRCA, Prison Department, and UDID Scheme. The programme aimed to create awareness among inmates about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to emphasize the importance of rehabilitation, recovery, and social reintegration.
During the programme, Nodal Officer (NAPDDR), briefed the inmates about the objectives and activities being undertaken under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” for the prevention of substance abuse and the promotion of a drug-free society. Medical Officer of IRCA conducted an interactive session on the rehabilitation process for individuals affected by substance abuse and sensitized the inmates about De-Addiction treatment, counselling services, relapse prevention, and recovery support mechanisms.
Further, the Jailor of District Prison, motivated the inmates to adopt a positive and disciplined lifestyle and emphasized the importance of self-reformation, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into society as responsible citizens. State Coordinator, UDID, also informed the inmates and officials about the benefits of Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card and explained the procedure for applying for card and availing various government welfare schemes and services.
Earlier, addressing the gathering, Deputy Jailor, highlighted the significance of organizing such awareness initiatives within correctional institutions for promoting positive behavioral change and social responsibility.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge of “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life” and an earnest appeal to all inmates to stay away from drugs and alcohol and actively contribute towards building a healthier, safer, and more responsible society.
