Sri Vijaya Puram, May 22: The Directorate of Arts & Culture, Andaman & Nicobar Administration is in the process of creating the ‘Andaman Nicobar Museum’ in the Old State Library Building, near Head Post Office, Sri Vijaya Puram. This institution is envisioned as a vital repository to preserve and showcase the Islands’ rich cultural, historical, and social heritage, spanning from the primitive tribal eras to the colonial and post-Independence periods.
In order to enrich the museum’s collection and ensure that it reflects the collective memory of the Islands, the A&N Administration appeals to the residents of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to come forward and contribute their mite in establishing this Museum by donating antiques, old written documents, manuscripts, photographs, artefacts or memorabilia of historical and cultural significance available with them.
All contributions will be carefully examined for authenticity and relevance, and selected items will be preserved and prominently displayed in the museum. Due consideration and acknowledgment will be accorded to the donors, with their names featured alongside the exhibits, thereby honoring their role in safeguarding the heritage of the Islands.
This initiative is envisioned as a community-driven endeavor, ensuring that the legacy of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands is preserved for future generations.
