Training Programme Organised at Dr. RP Hospital for ASHAs as Part of Observance of ‘World No Tobacco Day 2026’

Mayabunder, May 24: A training programme was organised at Dr. R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder in coordination with IRCA, Mayabunder as part of observance of ‘World No Tobacco Day 2026’ for ASHAs. Dr. Alice Bwa, Medical Officer eloborately explained the harmful health effects of tobacco and emphasized prevention and early intervention. Ms. Suvida, Project Coordinator-cum-Vocational Counsellor (North and Middle Andaman), provided guidance on tobacco cessation, rehabilitation services, counselling, and preventive measures. Dr. Athira, Psychiatrist, spoke on mental health disorders and the stigma related to mental health and its early treatment.

GDMO (Ayurveda) highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and the importance of healthy lifestyle practices. The Psychiatrist interacted with the ASHAs and spoke on mental health illnesses and psychological well-being.

The programme served as a valuable health education and sensitization event with informative sessions making it beneficial for the health care workers and community. The programme concluded with active participation, interaction, and a pledge towards a tobacco-free society.
