AH&VS Initiates Mass Deworming Programme in South Andaman

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 24: The Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has initiated a Mass Deworming Programme in South Andaman District with effect from 11th May, 2026. The drive is being conducted as a preventive health measure for livestock ahead of the upcoming monsoon season and Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination campaign.

The programme is being implemented through all Veterinary Hospitals, Dispensaries and Sub-Centres across South Andaman District. Veterinary Officers and Veterinary Compounders are actively visiting farmers’ fields and households to administer deworming treatment and ensure maximum coverage, especially in rural and remote areas. Alongside treatment, awareness is also being created among livestock farmers about the importance of regular deworming for improving animal health, enhancing productivity and building disease resistance.

Till date, a total of 144 cattle and 14 buffaloes have been dewormed under the programme, benefitting 38 livestock farmers in the district. The Department is continuing the campaign in a phased manner to cover more animals in the coming days.

The Directorate appeals to all livestock farmers to extend full cooperation to the field veterinary staff and avail the benefits of this Mass Deworming Programme for the better health and welfare of their animals.

The Department remains committed to strengthening livestock healthcare services and ensuring the well-being of animals across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
