
Sri Vijaya Puram, May 26: To create awareness among farmers on the management and control of mealy bug infestation in vegetable and plantation crops, the Department of Agriculture, A&N Administration in association with UTATMA, is conducting sensitization programmes, training and field demonstrations across different blocks of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
As part of this initiative, a Demonstration Programme on “Preparation and Application of Organic Bio-Inputs viz., Dasparni, Biopesticides, Waste Decomposer and Panchagavya” was organized on 25/05/2026 in the field of Smti. Bina Pani Sana of Sitapur Village under Dasrathpur Panchayat.
During the programme, farmers were provided practical training on the preparation and application of various organic bio-inputs for effective management of mealy bug infestation and promotion of eco-friendly farming practices. The officials demonstrated the preparation and use of Dasparni and other botanical formulations which are effective in reducing mealy bug incidence in vegetable and plantation crops.
The farmers were also sensitized about the harmful effects of excessive use of chemical pesticides and were encouraged to adopt low-cost indigenous technologies for sustainable crop production, improvement of soil health and enhancement of crop productivity. Information regarding the use of Waste Decomposer and Panchagavya for improving plant vigour and resistance against pest and disease attack was also shared with the participants.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation of local farmers, who appreciated the efforts of the Department in disseminating practical knowledge on natural and sustainable methods of pest management.
